Growing together for Norfolk's Trees
We are a volunteer-led group made up of South Norfolk Tree Wardens. We are dedicated to growing, planting and protecting trees across our South Norfolk towns and villages.
Whether you're a seasoned tree enthusiast or simply love your local green spaces, there’s a place for you in our network.

01
We grow local provenance trees
We lovingly grow trees from seeds gathered right here in South Norfolk, nurturing them until they’re ready to flourish.
Once they’re strong enough, we distribute these young trees back into the community through our Community Tree Nurseries — helping our towns and villages grow greener, one seed at a time.
02
We organise planting projects in the local community
From October to March, our planting season is in full swing! During this time, we bring together fantastic groups of volunteers to plant trees and hedgerows across our communities.
It’s all about fresh air, muddy boots, and working side by side to make our shared spaces greener and more vibrant.
03
We help protect trees under threat
We stand up for the trees that need us most. 💚 When trees in our communities are under threat, we work hard to protect them — often teaming up with local councils to safeguard those most at risk.
It’s all part of our mission to make sure today’s trees can be enjoyed for generations to come.
04
We celebrate trees across Norfolk
We love coming together to share our successes and celebrate all the wonderful work happening across Norfolk each year.
It’s a chance to recognise everyone’s hard work, swap stories, and feel proud of the difference we’re making — together. 💚
We've planted over 46,000 trees

Our Tree Wardens dig in and leaf a lasting legacy.

Each planting season — from November through to March — our brilliant Tree Wardens and their local communities roll up their sleeves, grab their spades, and get planting! We’re absolutely thrilled to share that during the 2024/25 season, the SNTWN team planted an incredible 2,914 trees, covering a wonderful mix of species and locations.
Here’s a little snapshot of what we achieved together — and we couldn’t be prouder. Thank you to everyone who got involved.

Opportunities to Volunteer with SNTWN
Become a Tree Warden
We’re lucky to have 42 fantastic Tree Wardens in our group right now — but there’s still plenty of room to grow! With over thirty spots waiting to be filled, we’ve got some big (muddy!) boots to fill, and we’d love to welcome more tree-loving folks to the team. Could that be you?
Seed Collectors
Our Community Tree Nurseries are always on the lookout for local provenance seed to help grow the next generation of trees.
Got a veteran tree on your land — maybe a lovely old British broadleaf — that’s ready to share a few seeds? If you’re happy to collect them, we’ll happily come and pick them up from you. Every little handful helps us grow something wonderful!
Marketing
Are you a budding marketeer with a passion for the planet? We’re looking for someone to help us spread the word — whether it’s shaping our PR strategy or giving our outreach a boost.
Maybe you’re a student keen to gain experience in the eco world? Or just someone who loves a good story and wants to help tell ours?
Special Tree Skills
We’re lucky to have a wonderful team of tree experts who lend their knowledge in all sorts of specialist areas — especially when it comes to protecting our precious trees.
Right now, we’re looking to grow that team! If you’ve got skills in tree assessment or other specialist areas and would love to put them to good use, we’d be thrilled to hear from you.
Planting Projects 25/26
We’re on the lookout for lovely volunteers to join us for our planting-out days!
This winter, we’ve got lots of exciting planting projects happening across South Norfolk — and we’d really appreciate a few extra pairs of hands to help us get those roots in the ground. No experience needed, just enthusiasm and a love for the outdoors!

Digging a little deeper
Rooted in Community, Growing for the Future
Our network is made up of volunteer Tree Wardens linked to parishes across South Norfolk. We work closely with local residents, schools, landowners and community groups to grow and plant native trees from local seed, and to care for the trees we already have.
Whether it’s planting new hedgerows, looking after veteran trees, or sharing advice on how to support aging trees, we’re here to help keep our local tree landscape thriving.
We’re supported by generous sponsors and work in partnership with organisations like The Tree Council, so our volunteers are trained, informed, and ready to make a real difference.

Proudly planting roots with Busseys
Busseys isn’t just a big name in cars — they’ve got deep roots in Norfolk too. They’ve proudly been a Main Ford Dealer since 1923, but their story actually began even earlier, as a humble grocers and tea merchants. Over the years, they’ve grown and blossomed into a thriving multi-franchise dealership with six sites across Norfolk, covering every corner of the motor industry.

Busseys tree planting initiative
And here’s where it gets even better — the Busseys Tree Planting Initiative! Launched back in 2007 (long before tree planting was on everyone’s radar), Busseys started offering to plant a tree for every customer who bought a car from them. Since then, they’ve teamed up with a variety of organisations to make Norfolk greener and healthier, one tree at a time.
We’re proud to call them partners — and even prouder of the forests we’re growing together!
